Tropical Storm Nate is on track to strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall somewhere between Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle at the weekend. The centre is expected to move across the northern Gulf of Mexico today, making landfall along the central United States tonight. Additional strengthening is expected before landfall, and Hurricane Nate is forecast to be a category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale when the centre reaches the gulf coast.
09:30am EDT: Most likely arrival time of Hurricane Nate Hurricane Nate is expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast at 8pm EDT, according to the The National Hurricane Center (NHC). 07:00am EDT: Hurricane Nate begins to strengthen Hurricane Nate is “a little stronger” over the central Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The latest NHC update reports maximum winds of 85mph. In the last update, the NHC issued in a public advisory that Hurricane Nate’s wind speeds was peaking at 80mph. Storm Nate is still officially earmarked a category one hurricane, and will make landfall as one.
